Bulle – Romont: full steam ahead!
Back when the standard-gauge network was being built, the Canton of Fribourg, rural and lacking major industry, was financially poor. However, it lay on planned routes to link Lausanne to Bern, including the central route set out by the federal authorities: Lausanne – Palézieux – Romont – Fribourg – Bern. This line would not be sufficient to serve the Canton of Fribourg, so the canton's districts demanded additional rail connections.
150 years ago, the Bulle – Romont (BR) Railway Company celebrated the opening of its line. Unfortunately, the original steam locomotives used on the line no longer survive. So Dampf Bahn Bern has put together a train using rolling stock from branch lines operated in the last century and pulled by an Eb 3/5 5810 locomotive. Thanks to this close collaboration, you can criss-cross the Gruyère and Glâne regions at full steam. Don't miss this chance to embark on a nostalgic journey back in time with friends or family!
